Join Alan Sugano, President of ADS Consulting Group, as he explores how you can leverage VMware’s technology. Alan will present three technical sessions on three VMware topic areas that are relevant to any IT department currently running or considering migrating to a virtualized infrastructure using VMware and ESXi.
You’ll learn how to avoid common pitfalls when implementing this technology. You’ll get a down in the trenches view of how to implement this technology with tips for what works and what doesn’t. Reduce your learning curve, get time-saving tips and tricks, and avoid roadblocks that can hamper your implementation effort.
Sessions (each session runs approximately 75 minutes):
Session 1:New Features/Upgrading to vSphere 5.0
VMware released vSphere 5 in early July 2011. There are some compelling features in this release, and we are actively migrating our clients to vSphere 5. Learn about the new features and licensing changes with vSphere 5. We’ll cover items to consider before upgrading, including the move to ESXi, hardware considerations, backup, VMFS5 best practices, and using the vCenter Update Manager to perform the upgrade. Guarantee that your upgrade to vSphere 5 goes smoothly by ensuring that the necessary infrastructure is in place, before moving to vSphere 5.
Session 2: Optimizing VM performance with ESX
Are your VMs running slow? Are your VMs resource challenged? In this session, we’ll examine how to extract the best performance of your VMs running on ESX. We’ll provide specific tips for how to tune a VM’s performance based on the application’s requirements, including Exchange, SQL Server, and SharePoint. With vSphere 5, you can now allocate up to 1TB of memory for a VM, which is probably adequate for almost any VM. Often, with a few changes you can increase the performance of a VM significantly with a minimal hardware investment.
Session 3: Virtualization Backup and Disaster Recovery
Virtualization is a natural fit for any Disaster Recovery (DR) plan, even if your production environment is not virtualized. Of course, it’s a no-brainer when your production environment is virtualized. In this session, we’ll cover the benefits of incorporating virtualization into your DR strategy. We’ll cover the best practices to ensure your production environment can be quickly recovered in the event of a disaster. From single host replication, SAN replication, mirrored sites, VMware’s Site Recovery Manager, and using the cloud as your DR platform you have many options available to you to address your company’s DR requirements.
