Creating business applications in Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) is easy if you know just a few XAML basics. In this seminar we will show you how to make your business applications shine. You will first see lots of different ways that you can use the powerful ListBox. Next you will be shown how to create toolbars, status bars, create add/edit/delete forms and even an application template that you can use as the basis for your WPF applications. Finally you will learn tips and tricks for styling your application using color and styles to make your application really stand out.
Sessions (each session runs approximately 75 minutes):
Session 1: The Flexible WPF ListBox
The ListBox control in WPF is very powerful. In fact after you see all the things you can do with the ListBox you will probably use it more than any other list-type control. In this seminar you will see how to present multiple columns, multiple lines per row, make the list box horizontal, display images, using data triggers, even perform sorting and grouping all with just a little bit of XAML and code. All of this and more is available with this powerful control. Switching templates to display two different sets of information in the same list box, using value converters to format data, and creating a zigzag pattern in your list box can really spice up your WPF applications. All of these techniques and more will be shown in this fun and informative session. You will walk away with some great reusable code that will be of use to you right away.
Session 2: Business Application User Interfaces in WPF
WPF is an incredible tool for developing business applications! If you are a Windows Forms or VB6 developer, you probably already have a standard look and feel for your applications. Learn how to create standard business application forms using XAML and WPF. You will see how to create a shell for hosting windows and user controls, how to create login and about forms and even a standard add, edit, delete form. You will walk away with tons of samples that you can put into use right away.
Session 3: Spice up Your WPF Apps using VS.NET
Most programmers are not artists; but you do not to be in order for your applications to look professional. Just a few little touches such as styles, color gradients, pictures, animation and a few other XAML “magic” tricks and your application can look great! This seminar will present you with a collection of tips that will spice up your WPF applications in no time at all. The best thing is you can do all of these in Visual Studio; no need to learn Expression Blend! You will be shown some great re-usable styles, colors, mirror reflections, gradients, a sample menu system and other XAML techniques that will take your XAML applications from drab to fab! You will walk away with a set of styles and resources that you can put to use in your applications immediately!
